Google, Facebook exempted from Court Appearance

In a partial relief to the social networking giants Google and Facebook, the Delhi High Court on Thursday exempted the chiefs of the firms from making a personal appearance in the court over objectionable content case.

The heads of the firms were about to make a personal appearance in the court on March 13 in the case.

The government counsel today slammed Google and Facebook for hurting Indian sentiments with controversial and objectionable contents on their sites.

The counsel gave an instance of a controversial video of Kashmir issue on YouTube, which the government of India had asked Google to remove from the site. But Google did not take the order.

Earlier on December 23, the trial court had summoned as many as 21 social networking sites for posting objectionable contents.
